Resumen
The incidence of sepsis and its attendant mortality risk are both increased significantly with advanced age. Because the proportion of the population living beyond 65 years is expected to outpace population growth in developed countries over the next 50 years, severe sepsis in older patients is likely to become a major public health concern and to accrue considerable health care expenditures in the future.
