Resumen
Terminologia Anatomica also refers to the third fibular muscle as third peroneal muscle, with an A04.7.02.039 code. The three fibular muscles originate from the fibula with short and third fibular muscles inserted in the fifth metatarsal. The long fibular muscle, inserts on the medial cuneiform and first metatarsal. The third fibular muscle passes under the extensor retinaculum, contributes to upper ankle joint dorsi flexion and like other fibular muscles to eversion of the foot. It is proposed to rename the third fibular muscle, minimum fibular muscle, as the term harmonizes with names of the long and short fibular muscles, in reference to size and location of muscle, bone, vascular and nerve structures in the region, in accordance with indications noted Terminologia Anatomica. © 2015, Universidad de la Frontera.
