Uncertainty in the assessment of urban noise through continuous sampling

Resumen
There is a crucial dilemma for the study of urban noise in order to obtain proven methodologies which allow, on one hand, to increase the quality of predictions and on the other hand, to save resources in the spatial and temporal sampling. An interesting topic in the assessment of urban noise is the evaluation of the uncertainty when the estimate of long-term indicators is performed from measurements made for periods of significantly shorter duration. A study based on measurements performed over a year in different sampling points located in different cities is presented in this work. These sampling points have different urban and traffic characteristics. The aim of the present study is to analyze the uncertainty in the estimation of the annual indicators, as for example Lden, from short sampling measurements. To achieve this goal two analysis where performed. First, a comparison between theoretical models for evaluating errors and the statistical analysis of our measurements is made. Second, different proposals published in the literature to evaluate this kind of errors when estimating long term measurements are studied. © 2015 by ASME.
