Resumen
Managing the infrastructure of academic institutions in developing countries is human capital intensive in nature. However, management and maintenance is required so as to forestall hazards that may result in emergencies. With the increasing use of mobile devices such as tablets in academic institutions, staff and students can also contribute to managing the infrastructure by being able to report cases that may lead to hazards. When emergencies eventually occur it is also essential for staff and students to be able to get across to the right personnel in good time so as to manage the situation and prevent it from causing discomfort to the academic community. This research work is aimed at providing support for reporting infrastructural defects and managing emergencies in academic institutions of developing countries. This isachieved by developing a mobile-based Emergency Report and Response system. The system helps to create an easier and proactive means of alerting the management of an institution of hazards by leveraging on the members of the institution including staff and students. © 2016 Pushpa Publishing House, Allahabad, India.
